PROTO PORTRAITS

Using myself as the subject,  this project investigates the literal implications of simplifying forms through flattening. I developed a methodology of flipping between two dimensional to three dimensional representations and in turn between analog and digital.

The final result: a was graphic destruction of my own portrait, and therefor my identity. The uncanny, mangled human face, retains some recognizable human qualities but now possesses a new anonymity. As a completed image it is difficult to tell how the image has been mutilated. The boundaries between analog and digital are confused and the process is untraceable. The new portrait, brings into question the authenticity of the image. By engaging with digital modes of documentation, I was able to hide the impact of the human hand.
